During this time, it was Theo that supported his brother, both financially and emotionally. After Vincent passed, Theo (and later his wife Johanna and their children) dedicated himself to the promotion of his brother’s masterpieces. It was only over the course of decades that Vincent’s work became better known.
This was a story that resonated with us. That an artist like Van Gogh would remain unknown without the hard work, love, support and passion of others.
Just like our namesake, our studio is a collection of thoughts and ideas supported by a network of hard-working, loving, supportive and passionate people. And every day we’re thankful for them, for we wouldn’t be who we are without them.
The name “Vincent + Theo” actually pays homage to Vincent Van Gogh and his lesser known brother, Theo. And it was the dynamic forged by them that captivated us.
When Vincent Van Gogh originally created his works, he was an unknown. His work unrecognized. He sold but a handful of paintings and discouraged the few writers that showed interest in his work. He was actually suspicious of success and was concerned that early recognition would corrupt him.
